Novus Design Studios is a boutique engineering consulting firm focused on serving the architectural community of southern California and beyond. Approaching each project with the mandate of stewardship of the built environment gives us a unique perspective. We believe designing in a vacuum or making assumptions on behalf of the end users is a failure of the designer. Therefore we believe that great design starts with a candid conversation amongst the design team about the goals and constraints of the project. Our fundamental belief is that building systems and architecture need not be opposed, and we refuse to be positioned on opposite sides of the design table from our clients. These two facets of the built environment should be complimentary at all times and contribute to the ultimate goal -- a symbiotic existence of great architecture and building systems. Our proudest achievements have always portrayed this ideal, and we strive towards this goal in all of our endeavors.
SYSTEM SYMBIOSIS
Charles Eames once said that design largely depends on the sum of its constraints, the ability of the designer to recognize as many of the constraints, and the designer’s willingness and enthusiasm for working within them. Our design process is centered on understanding project constraints and developing optimized MEP systems within such parameters . To that end, we take a pragmatic approach to design and always prioritize addressing the design constraints over the optimization of any given system.

We believe sustainable design requires the collaboration and involvement of the entire project team from designers to owners and builders. Engineering designs that strike the right balance between sustainability, budgets, aesthetics and function.
